Our St James Pet Blog

*New for 2019*
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” – Anatole France

Welcome to our Pet Blog here at St James Hatcham. We have an unconditional love for our furry friends and critters at home and we would like to celebrate this with all of you! Do you have a beloved pet at home? Send us a photo and we can post them here for all your teachers and friends to see!

Benefits of having a pet:
  • They can keep you fit; dogs need regular, daily walks in order to stay happy and healthy!
  • They make sure you’re never lonely
  • They lower your stress levels e.g. stroking your cat or watching fish swim around in a tank
  • They can help you make friends (pet owners are a friendly bunch of people!)
  • They can improve your immune system and prevent allergies and colds
  • They can teach children responsibility
  • They make you feel safe
  • For some children, the sensory experience of holding and petting an animal can be soothing.
  • Children can learn to express themselves in more ways and learn to relate better, by having a pet.

We celebrated our first Pet Day this year and how exciting it was! Thank you to all our parents and families that brought in their four legged friends (and critters and fish) for us to meet. It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce the animals we share our lives with, whilst also practising patience, compassion and responsibility. Below are some photos of the event:

Hamsters join Reception!

Here in Reception, we have had the joy of looking after two hamsters, kindly gifted to us by one of our families. The children have loved getting to know them and learning about the responsibilities of looking after a pet, such as changing their water, giving them food, and cleaning out their cage. The children voted in class to name the hamsters and the votes are in…
