Thursday 23 June 2022 Our last session with Ms Brosnan! We had our last singing assembly and choir session with Ms Brosnan today! Ms Brosnan has really helped us develop our voices and skills through her fun, engaging and enthusiastic sessions! We all thank her sincerely!

Monday 20 June 2022 Meet our school MP A couple of weeks ago, Cyrilla in Year 6 had the enormous honour of representing the school as our school MP at the Children's Parliament! This was only the second ever Children's Parliament and schools from across the UK debated 'How do we make the world a safer place'. We are so proud of being a chosen school and also of Cyrilla for representing us. Watch out Boris Johnson - Cyrilla will be after the Prime Minister position soon!

Saturday 18 June 2022 Hope4Justice - SJH Choir The SJH Choir took part in the Hope4Justice project produced by the Trinity Laban. Lewisham is the borough of culture (2022) and this was an urgent and powerful call to action, in a bid to make a difference dedicated to climate change. Our choir stood out not only for their singing talent but their hard work ethic, behaviour and respect for others. Well done to the children and Miss Zeina!

Tuesday 17 May 2022 Healthy Hatcham campaign! This week, the Global Scholars club launched St James' Healthy Hatcham campaign. This week is dedicated to healthy food choices in addition to learning about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Thursday 24 February 2022 Piano playing delights! Our new piano tutor is enjoying her time with her new group of musicians. The children have already made great progress and should be ready to perform to parents at the Summer Term music concert!

Sunday 6 February 2022 Another wonderful addition to the St James family! Welcome to our wonderful new Art Therapy student, Miu! We are lucky to have Miu working with us here at school for 2 days a week. We hope she experiences the very warm welcome all our children and families extend to new members of our school community.

Monday 31 January 2022 Zones of Regulation workshop for parents A huge thank you to our friends at Drumbeat for running a fantastic workshop for parents and carers from across the school! We follow the Zones of Regulation curriculum at St James and experienced a fantastic turn out to our very first in person whole school workshop since the pandemic hit schools in 2020. Thank you to all our families who contributed their ideas, wisdom and experiences. We had parents from Reception all the way up to year 6 join us fortea and biscuits -we spent over 2 hours discussing ways to better support the emotional literacy of our children and even tried a few relaxation techniques ourselves. Keep an eye out in the school newsletter for more Zones of Regulation news!

Tuesday 14 December 2021 Praise for St James learning environments! The staff at St James were praised in December's Lewisham SENCO update for our school environment. The SEND Advisory Service noted how our displays create a calmer learning environment for pupils that focused on developing vocabulary and independence. They mentioned our use of technology in displays and how QR codes helped the children learn more about their topics!

Wednesday 8 December 2021 Meet our Westminster Three! Yesterday Kamsi, Delanie and Ifijen attended a welcome event for this year's Westminster Platform project. The project selects promising Year 5 pupils to work on a year long enrichment project at Westminster School - one of the U.K.'s top independent schools. The project will booster their maths and English learning beyond Year 5 in additional to teaching new subjects such as Latin, Greek, Drama, Art, Science and Engineering. Once the project is completed, all three children will have the opportunity to have a supported application to independent schools if they wish and we have had great successes in the past. Only 44 Year 5 pupils from across London have been chosen so we are proud to have 3 members of our St James Hatcham family attend again this year. Well done to all three.

Tuesday 30 November 2021 Choir's performance at The Turning Of The Year Concert This evening our choir performed an acapella version of 'Wade In The Water' by The Spirituals. Their unity as a vocal group was strong and clear; receiving many positive praise from audience members! Well done to the children, Miss Zeina and Miss Dowdye - we are all so proud!

Tuesday 16 November 2021 Choir's visit with Clare Caddick Choir had a great visit from Clare Caddick, the Vocal Leader at Lewisham Music, ahead of their participation in the Turning of The Year Concert. It was lovely to see her after so long and even better to sing along with her! We are so excited for the performance now!

Tuesday 16 November 2021 Karate Club are getting serious! It is great to see the children from Years 1 & 2 getting to grips with discipline in Karate Club. This is only their second week and they are already looking like experts.

Saturday 13 November 2021 The Rights Respecting Group write to Lewisham Council. Following up from St James' COP26 work, a school climatechange pledge has been in making which involves communityactions to reduce our carbon footprint. Yesterday, the Rights Respect Group formed a letter that has nowbeen sent out to Lewisham governors regarding the communityactions from the pledge that will hopefully be considered in futuremeetings. Please have a readbelow as the children really worked hard to write this!

Thursday 11 November 2021 Art Club VIP Tour of CCA Gallery and Lanyard Making Our KS2 art club had the pleasure of a VIP tour of Goldsmith's CCA gallery by the wonderful Trish and Thea. We took a deeper look in to Eugenio Dittborn's work, even listening to Mia (Y6) read and translate the Spanish print in his artwork.

Thursday 11 November 2021 Year 3 and 4's Climate Change Workshop! On Tuesday this week, Year 3 and 4 continued their COP26 Climate Change activist work by taking part in an engaging workshop run by the wonderful students of Goldsmith University.

Monday 8 November 2021 Year 2 palaeontologists Today Year 2 became palaeontologists as we used a chisel and brush to dig up some fossilised dinosaurs!

Thursday 4 November 2021 Eugenio Dittborn Artist Workshop with Sycamore Class This morning Reception were full of excitement for their very first artist workshop over at Goldsmith's CCA gallery. We explored the work of Chilean artist Eugenio Dittborn and were taken on a tour of the gallery by the wonderful artist Mira who had lots of ways to keep our children engaged and curious about art.

Wednesday 3 November 2021 Faith Group Ambassadors COP26 workshop Our Faith Group Ambassadors, accompanied by Ms Price & Miss Zeina, attended a workshop focused onthe 4 R's - reimagination, relationships, respect and responsibility surrounding climate change from a Christian perspective. This was a great way for us to kickstart our work on COP26 this week.

Tuesday 2 November 2021 Playground Buddies in action! Play is such an important part of the day at St James Hatcham! Our Year 6 Play Buddies were out in the infant playground today playing fun,collaborative games with our youngest pupils. They were busy teaching rules and encouraging everyone to join in! Today Jayda taught the classic game, 'Duck, duck, goose' - well done to our fantastic Play Buddies!

Saturday 23 October 2021 Olamide attends the Wigmore Hall. Olamide in Year 6 was invited to the Wigmore Hall last night to watch the Piatti Quartet play. They had a spare ticket and Olamide was nominated for it due to her focus and love of classical music. Olamide looked so smart amongst the other classical music fans and made the school very proud.

Wednesday 20 October 2021 Olivia Sterling workshop with Art Club Our KS2 Arts Award club had the pleasure of meeting contemporary artist Olivia Sterling at the Goldsmiths CCA gallery today. This was our first artist workshop of the year to kickstart our time as school in residence at the gallery.

Friday 8 October 2021 Our very own medal winner! Well done to Khamari in Team 4 forwinningPlatformCricket“Playerof theWeek” Award. Jonathon, the Platform Cricket coach,put forwardKhamari at St James Hatcham because he has demonstrated great talent, fine motor skills and an appetite to improve,in equalmeasures. He was picket out of 4,000 other young cricket players across the U.K. and we couldn't be prouder.

Monday 4 October 2021 Great to have Ms Brosnan back! It was wonderful to have Ms Charlotte Brosnan from the Voices Foundation back in leading our singing assembly. The children always sing beautifully and you can feel the joy around the whole school!
