Year 1 Trip to London Aquarium

Year 1 pupils at St James Hatcham Primary School had a thrilling day out as they visited the SEA LIFE London Aquarium, bringing their Autumn 1 topic, "Under the Sea," to vibrant, watery life!

Guided by their teacher, Ms. Duffy, the students were amazed by the incredible diversity of marine life, experiencing firsthand the creatures they had been learning about in the classroom.

The children journeyed through different marine habitats, getting up close and personal with thousands of fascinating creatures. Highlights of the day included:

• The Shark Walk: The class was mesmerised watching powerful sharks glide silently overhead in the ocean tunnel.

• Colourful Fish: They spotted all the different fish they'd studied, from the clownfish and tangs in the vibrant coral reef tanks to the mysterious rays.

• The Penguin Sanctuary: The Year 1 explorers were delighted to see the colony of Gentoo penguins waddling, sliding, and diving in their icy habitat.

The trip was a perfect culmination of their term's work. The students were able to identify and discuss the habitats, diets, and unique characteristics of the sea creatures, demonstrating their excellent knowledge gained from the "Under the Sea" topic.

Ms. Duffy commented, "It was wonderful to see the pupils' faces light up as they recognised the different animals. The aquarium provided such an immersive, real-world connection to our learning, cementing all the concepts we've covered this term. Their behaviour was exemplary, and they were brilliant little marine biologists for the day!"
